Three individuals are now suspects in the investigation into alleged election fraud during the early voting in Borlänge municipality. Prosecutor Oskar Edvardsson has now requested that public defenders be appointed for all of them, whose identities are protected by confidentiality.

There has been frequent reporting on the suspected election fraud during the advance voting in Borlänge municipality. A preliminary investigation was launched but was then closed just days before the election.

Samnytt has previously reported on information from a police source concerning difficulties in contacting the prosecutor leading the investigation, Oskar Edvardsson, at the start of the police inquiry.

The same source also stated that several police officers involved in the investigation got the impression that Edvardsson was not particularly interested in pursuing the matter further. The source also leveled strong criticism at the handling of the case.

“Independent political position. If we cannot have government employees who can be independent in their legal judgments to safeguard democracy, we are in the wrong place,” he told Samnytt.

After the election, when it emerged that the unknown Somali Mohamed Ali had secured a seat in the parliament by personal votes, prosecutor Edvardsson chose to reopen the investigation.

Three Suspects Request Defenders

Today, the same prosecutor submitted three applications to appoint public defenders at the Falu District Court. The legal documents confirm that three people are suspected in the case.

Suspect 1 has requested that the court appoint attorney Carl Oskar Morgården as public defender. Morgården has previously defended Per Sjögren, a representative of the neo-Nazi Nordic Resistance Movement. He is currently acting as the defense attorney for the Ludvika politician HåGe Persson.

This individual is suspected of improper influence during voting in Borlänge between August 26 and September 4, 2026.

Suspect 2 has requested that attorney Lars Morell be appointed as public defender. Morell is based in the municipality of Ludvika. This individual is suspected of accepting an undue benefit during voting in Borlänge on August 28, 2026.

Suspect 3 accepts the public defender appointed by the court and has no specific request. This person is suspected of aiding and abetting improper influence during voting in Borlänge on August 28, 2026.

The suspects’ identities are currently protected by confidentiality. Mohamed Ali has stated that he has not been served with any suspicion of criminal offense.
